TEST star Adam Gilchrist has warned Western Australia to watch for Darren Lehmann's trickery and resurgent pacemen Jason Gillespie in today's ING clash with South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
Houdini would slip out of strait-jackets backwards, David Copperfield pulled rabbits out of a hat but can Lehmann deflate WA for just the 14th time in 38 games?
The Warriors' batting is headed by former Test No. 4 Damien Martyn, Australian opener Mike Hussey and incomparable Gilchrist.
Lehmann's task is complicated by the absence of boom recruit Matthew Elliott with a knee injury. "Gilly" knows his ex-Aussie team-mate too well to underestimate his powers of deception.
"They're a very dangerous team in all cricket this year, it's your genuine case of experience balanced in with youth," said Gilchrist of SA. "There's no-one more cunning than Darren Lehmann and I will expect tricks from him tomorrow.
"What he is doing, coming back and passing on his knowledge he has gained from many years of cricket, is wonderful for the game. Hopefully we can get a trick or two on top of him."
The game's greatest keeper-batsman feels a debt of gratitude to the struggling Warriors. This one-dayer is no second Test warm-up.
"I don't look at it as a hit-out for me, it's an ING Cup game with points up for grabs," said Gilchrist, who has slammed 7542 one-day international runs at the staggering strike rate of 95.
"It's the same with all the Australian guys, we don't get back to the states much. Hopefully we can convey a little bit of knowledge that we have had from playing at the highest level."
Gilchrist, 33, joined the procession of state captains, including Hussey, backing Lehmann's criticism of Cricket Australia's ING Cup supersub rule.
"I believe the rules are set but I do agree with Darren in saying that it's better to name your supersub after the toss," he said.
