Adam Gilchrist remained modest despite overtaking South Africa's Mark Boucher to claim a world record 414th Test victim during the second Test with India.
Gilchrist's big moment came when he caught an edge from Anil Kumble off the bowling of Mitchell Johnson.
However, the Australian's celebrations were muted to say the least as the Indians, with Kumble last man out, built an impressive first innings total of 526 in Adelaide.
Having dropped VVS Laxman on day one, Gilchrist was quick to poke fun at himself when asked about the record, stating: "I'd have got there a bit quicker if I'd hung on to a few more!
"I don't know what it is about milestone matches and my keeping, when I was in pursuit of my 300th dismissal I dropped a couple, 400th I dropped a couple and in pursuit of this record I dropped one, but so be it.
"It's nice to finally get there."
Gilchrist, 36, made his Test debut in 1999 against Pakistan and some 95 matches later admits world records were not on his mind when he started out.
"No, I was certainly not that ambitious," he added.
"I don't think any of us in our team, or even this era or any era really, look at stats and set out in pursuit of them.
"And I think if you try to do that in a Test career in particular, if you eye up a stat such as that and try to pursue it you'd stumble very very early."
