Gilchrist reported over 'dissent'

Source: FOX Sports - January 16, 2006

Australia vice-captain Adam Gilchrist has been reported by the International Cricket Council for showing dissent at an umpiring decision in last night's tri-series loss against South Africa.

Gilchrist, today given a week's rest by Australia's selectors, will front a disciplinary hearing in Adelaide on January 25 over his actions in disputing a run out decision by umpire Aleem Dar.

He was today reported by the three match umpires for a level one offence under 1.3 of the code of conduct which relates to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision by action or verbal abuse".

Gilchrist was involved in an exchange with Dar after the umpire refused to direct a run out attempt against Boeta Dippenaar to the third umpire in the 26th over.

If found guilty of the level one offence, Gilchrist would be punished through a reprimand and/or fine worth 50 per cent of his match fee.

The Australian team was also penalised for a slow over-rate during the five-wicket loss.

The world champions were fined for being one over short of the required overs, given all the allowances.
