Australia must combat late run sprees - Gilchrist

Australia must improve on restricting runs in the last five overs when they bowl in one-day internationals, vice-captain Adam Gilchrist said today.
"As a general rule in one-dayers across the world in the last two years, 400 have been passed, 300 has become the norm," Gilchrist told reporters after his team's final Champions Trophy warm-up match on Sunday.
"I think the increase late in the innings is where it (totals) has really expanded. It is an area of the game that we have identified that we want to get better at.
"I'm sure all the teams are, and it seems that the mindset of the teams must be changing somewhat too, for it seems 10 an over in the last five or six overs is just becoming the norm now and I am not sure if it is Twenty-20 cricket that's brought that on or just the conditions."
Australia begin their Champions Trophy campaign against West Indies on Wednesday.
In March, South Africa scored a record-breaking 438 for nine while chasing down a record target of 435 to clinch an exciting one-day series 3-2 against Australia at home.
It was the first time the 400-barrier was broken in one-day cricket, though neither of contemporary cricket's most accurate bowlers, Australian Glenn McGrath and his counterpart Shaun Pollock, played in the match.
"We are not worried about or concerned about it. It's just the way it is, and the bowlers are very aware and they are trying to be more economical," added Gilchrist.
