Australian cricket team vice-captain Adam Gilchrist was yesterday celebrating the birth of his third child, a son named Archie.
Australian team manager Steve Bernard confirmed the birth took place on Friday.
Adam and Mel Gilchrist already have a son, Harry, 5, and a daughter, Annie, 3.
Gilchrist was due to delay his departure to the Caribbean for the coming World Cup until after the birth, which had been due on Tuesday.
He had been granted compassionate leave by Cricket Australia but Bernard said it now had to be decided if Gilchrist would fly to the Caribbean with the rest of the Australian squad on Wednesday.
"It's a question that will need to be answered in the next day or so," Bernard said.
Team coach John Buchanan added: "Adam would be walking on cloud nine right at the moment because they've just had Archie.
"He would be feeling pretty good about the world, and I'm sure now he'll be looking forward to a very good World Cup."
The impending birth kept Gilchrist out of the Australian side that toured New Zealand, losing the Chappell-Hadlee series 3-0.
The champion wicketkeeper hit out at the timing of the series.
"I'm going to be brutally honest here and say I don't think too many people wanted it on at all," Gilchrist said last week, "but if you had to be really specific about the Australian cricket team, we didn't need this series at the moment, and it would have been nice to have that little bit of time for everyone to be at home freshening up and getting ready for the World Cup."
